Although the Woolly Opossums were defeated in the Great Critter War of 1862, there are possums living in and around Havenburrow. Not only were prisoners of war released when the fighting was over, but there were also defectors who favored the rabbits’ side. It’s a long story, but the possums of Havenburrow today are descendants of those war-ravaged ancestors who remained here.

Because of their painful history, which made acceptance by the other critters a difficult process, many turned to street gangs and lowbrow performance to make ends meet, and these days, it’s the jills that actually run things.
